A Video for Brazil by Geraldine Freeman, CoM

Over the last few months I’ve had the pleasure of producing a video for the Thalidomide children of Brazil. It was suggested that the Society undertook this project following Mat Fraser’s visit to Brazil, as a way of giving a slight insight into how we deal with daily tasks to enable us as individuals to lead as independent life of our choosing, in the hope of helping the children in Brazil as many of them haven’t had the advantages as we have in that many of us have known each other for many years and have learnt from one another. Helping them to see how we here in Britain overcome various physical difficulties. My plan was to cover most of our deformity. Because I couldn’t cover all that I would have liked to. I chose the 3 Thalidomide’s because of their varying disability.

Tom Yendel has no arms but does have legs. He is married with 2 children and is an artist with the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.

Jackie Harper who has no legs but arms lives independently and has 2 daughters, and has done many events for charities such as parachuting and completing a marathon on her hands.

Kevin Donnellon, who is upper and lower limbed phocomelic, lives independently and worked around how to over come many daily problems for someone in his position. He is also a College lecturer and has a great interest in politics.

So I’m sure you can understand why I chose theses 3 people. They allowed me to film some unique things such as skipping playing pool working in the kitchen, dressing and much more. The filming will be put on video and will be translated into Portuguese and sent to the appropriate person concerned.
